Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is gaining more and more momentum as the world becomes increasingly aware of the benefits of going green. There are even cities that are implementing a minimum green standard for constructing new buildings.
Although LEED is very complicated (check out the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for more information) there are many products out there that can help you certify. Great products to help your building earn points towards credits are ceramic porcelain tiles. In particular, StonePeak’s tile can help you certify because:
- StonePeak has a state of the art factory that is extremely energy efficient

One thing to clarify is that StonePeak’s ceramic porcelain tiles are not LEED certified, as no actual products are. Many people get confused by this thinking they are buying a certified product, later to learn that only the actual project can become LEED certified. This being said, StonePeak products may help your building qualify for LEED credits in the following areas:
Materials and Resources: MR Credit 5
(Regional materials 10% and 20%)
Materials from our Tennessee production facility qualify for this credit if used in projects within 500 miles of major markets for LEED projects. In addition, the factory has been built nearby its major extraction sources for raw materials, which are also within a 500 mile distance to major LEED building markets.
Credit Intent: To increase demand for building materials and products that are extracted and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation.
Materials and Resources: Credit 2
(Construction waste management 50% and 75%)
Construction wastes may be diverted from disposal in landfills to be recycled/reused in alternative construction materials
- Divert at least 50% of construction, demolition, and land-clearing debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators.
- Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process.
- Redirect reusable materials to the appropriate sites.
Materials and Resources: MR Credit 4
(Recycled content 10% and 20%)
Many StonePeak materials contain pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled content. Third party certificates are available here.
Credit Intent: To increase demand for building products that incorporate recycled content materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials.
Indoor Environmental Quality: EQ Credit 4.3
(Low emitting materials)
StonePeak products are GREENGAURD Children and Schools certified. This certification has been recognized as an alternative pathway for compliance with this credit.
Credit Intent: Reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating, and/or harmful to the comfort and well being of installers and occupants.
Heat Island Effect: SS Credit 7.1 & 7.2
(If requested, StonePeak can provide testing regarding solar reflective index (SRI))
Reduction of Heat Island Effect (Roof and non-roof) Earn points by lowering heat absorption by a combination of several specified strategies.
Credit Intent: Reduce heat islands to minimize impacts on microclimates and human and wildlife habitats.
Innovation in Design: Credit 1
(Approved on a case by case basis)
e.g. ventilated facades, photcatalytic tiles, 4 mm tiles, etc…
